SOU Youth Programs
College Credit Programs
The Office of Youth Programs provides high school students with the chance to take college-level classes, helping them save time and money on their future educational pursuits. High school students can earn college credits through Southern Oregon University in three ways: Advanced Southern Credit, Early Entry, and Foreign Language Proficiency.
Advanced Southern Credit
Advanced Southern Credit provides SOU college credit for courses taught in high school by high school teachers. Students can enroll in and earn either four or eight quarter credits for each high school course taken. All curriculum is approved and supervised by university faculty and academic departments.
Early Entry
Early Entry students, under a non-degree seeking status, attend courses at the SOU campus in Ashland or Medford, online, or remotely, alongside regular university students. The classes are instructed by SOU professors and instructors.
Foreign Language Proficiency
SOU offers Spanish college credits by examination (CBE) for students who have finished the highest level of Spanish in high school or are heritage language speakers. By taking a Spanish language exam and sending the scores to SOU, students can earn 8-20 college credits at an incredibly low cost.
