Southern Oregon University’s Youth Programs is proud to announce an upcoming event aimed at empowering Latino/a/x families through education and community engagement. On Saturday, January 25, 2025, the SOU Latino/a/x Programs team will host Día Familiar Latino [Latino Family Day].
Día Familiar Latino
The Dia Familiar Latino is designed for families and their students who are in 8th-12th grade throughout the southern Oregon region. The conference provides tiered content to help families familiarize themselves with the educational journey that takes place between middle school and college.
Seniors and their families will focus on the crucial steps needed to transition from high school to community college, university, or employment. There will be a variety of expertly-led workshops, providing insights into college applications, scholarships, financial aid, and academic success strategies.
The students in the lower grades (8th-11th) and their families will become acquainted with the SOU campus, learn about the resources available in the local region, and sit in on various breakout sessions focused on supporting student and family success.
“Me gusto la charla de la consejera terapeuta, nos habló de las emociones, lo que los estudiantes universitarios pasan mucho para llegar, y cómo debemos ayudarlos, fue de mucha ayuda. [I liked the talk given by the therapist. She talked to us about emotions, what university students go through when they arrive, and how we can help them. It was very helpful.]”

Commitment to Inclusion
Conference sessions will be offered in Spanish for parents, ensuring that language is not a barrier to accessing valuable information. For high school students, sessions will be available bilingually or in English. The events will feature breakout sessions covering a wide range of topics, including academic programs, financial aid, and student life. On-site child care will also be provided.
These events underscore Youth Program’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students and their families. By offering this targeted educational conference, SOU aims to bridge gaps and provide Latino/a/x families with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed in higher education.
